Call for Red Cross to inspect Diego Garcia
Monday 2 August 2004
A representative of Mauritian campaign group Lalit ("Struggle") has written to ask the International Committee of the Red Cross to conduct an inspection concerning prisoners held on Diego Garcia.
The letter is addressed to the Red Cross' Southern Africa delegation, which has responsibility for Mauritius, and repeatedly makes the point that Diego Garcia is part of Mauritius, citing the Mauritian constitution.
The letter focuses more on the assertion that Diego Garcia is a part of Mauritius than on the inspection of Diego Garcia.
